More Live Music Than Ever Before!

Its been a lot of fun bringing more live music to the Armada each year. In 2013, the first event had just one small tent on site to register everyone and then 350 kitesurfers went kiting together, broke a world record, raised lots of money for charity and had fun in some pretty hairy conditions!  And then the kitesurfing community said it might also be fun to add in some music, some camping, some brands maybe – and the Armada as we know it today was born…

We took small steps with music at first – just one live band at the party in 2014, the wonderful Dominos, who raised the roof and kept lots of happy kitesurfers jumping (and falling a little bit in love) till the early hours. In 2015 some more solo artists and duets were booked to entertain people in the tent during the day, and then 2 live bands on both Friday and Saturday night along with VJ Craig’s kiting footage on the jumbo screen boosted the party atmosphere of the Armada still further. Things were growing on the music front!

2016 saw a change in strategy – the rolling weekend in September / October had become impossible – and the fixed festival weekend, in sunny June, was ushered in! The new summer date opened the door to outdoor performing and in 2016 we tested a few live acts playing outside The BugBar on the green. People sat in the sun, relaxed, enjoyed the festival vibe. It worked, so it was time to step up. 2017 saw a full outdoor stage set up, with bands playing throughout the day – local promoter Nick Courtney did a great job pulling it all together. Finally the green was full of people – loads of them new to kiting – just taking in the festival, enjoying a beer, watching the bands and their kids having fun. It was fantastic.

So whats new for 2018? Well we have doubled the investment in live music once again. More bands than ever before, again, selected and managed by Nick Courtney and we have some great acts lined up. Bands will be playing later into the night outside, and then kicking on with more live music in the main marquee after sunset. Check out the full line up here!

And of course it wouldn’t be the Armada without the presence of our friend and resident DJ Justin Rushmore, deliverer of fine tunes and excellent cocktails from his Discobug and BugBar set up.  This year he is bringing his friend and fellow DJ Tony Slackshot who has lined up something special late on for those who feel that 1am is too early for the party to end. Have to say, I am looking forward to seeing how Silent Disco till 2.30am goes down at the Armada…

This years festival dates are 22-14 June on Hayling Island. Entry to the festival site remains FREE to all – you just need to register for your free tickets in advance!  Register Here!
