Armada Festival donates £5,000 to Hayling Island First Responders

Following the success of the 2018 Kitesurfing Armada Festival earlier this month, festival organisers were back on Hayling Island yesterday to present a £5,000 cheque from funds raised at the event to their chosen charity the Hayling Island First Responders.

Head of the Council, Michael Wilson, attended the presentation on behalf of Havant Borough Council, who have been a big support to the festival since it first took place in 2013. Read more

Green Armada!

Some big steps have been taken this year to make the Armada more plastic-free. Can you outline them?

Well thankfully, as most people will have seen, there has been a much greater focus on the problems of plastics in our oceans over recent months and as a result there is already much more awareness of the issue which is a great start. Clearly as kitesurfers we love the sea so this is an issue that affects us in a huge way and we all need to do our bit. We wanted to up our game at the Armada and look at every aspect where plastic is used across the festival and try to greatly reduce or eradicate these.

We didn’t quite know how much of a challenge it would be at the outset, or truly understand the costs involved – but we were committed to giving it a go!

Kite Britain gets underway!

This week, adventurers & Armada supporters Stew Edge and Islay Symonette started their epic adventure to kitesurf the entire British coastline! We’re calling on the entire Armada community to get behind the attempt!

Stew & Islay first got in touch with us at Armada HQ back in January, with what seemed a pretty remarkable challenge. They were already making their final arrangements and sourcing their support vessel and crew, and they explained their plans to raise £100,000 for the Marine Conservation Society and the Armada Trust by kitesurfing the 3000-mile perimeter of the British coastline, clockwise, over 100 days.

Help us support Kitesurfing at every level!

We have just returned from a fantastic week in Dakhla with our good friends Christian and Karine, who run the awesome CK Performance Clinics. It was a chance to recharge the batteries before the final run up to the Armada, learn a few new tricks (first Dark Slide – YES!) and meet some great new people. It’s always the same with kitesurfers, there is a connection which means that in no time at all you are relaxed and enjoying being with a group of people you have never met before.  The community is fantastic – and nothing beats the first cold beer together discussing your last powered up session on the water, watching the sun set and the last few kites come in.

Anyway, where are we going with this? Just that kitesurfing gives us a great deal of amazing experiences and positive memories, and at the Armada we want to try to support the sport, and the community as much as we can.

KiteWorldwide on giving away holidays & supporting the Armada!

One of the reasons we enjoy running the Kitesurfing Armada Festival is that we get to meet loads of amazing people involved in the sport we love. The community, the industry, the pro’s, the media guy’s – they all tend to have a passion for kitesurfing, running strong alongside their jobs whatever they may be.

The team from KiteWorldwide have attended and supported the Armada festival for many years, giving away holidays and being a really positive and fun partner, famously giving one lucky holiday winner, who was out kitesurfing at the time of the draw, 5 minutes to get himself to the main stage or lose the prize. A friend legged it to the beach to tell him, and he made it – in his wetsuit and to huge applause – with seconds to spare!

Make a weekend of it at the Armada 2018!

It has been fantastic to see the footprint of the Armada Festival growing year on year since we began the event back in 2013. Back then we had no camping at all, just one small registration tent in a car park and just the beach and sea to enjoy. But each year since the festival has grown and the space needed for everyone’s campervans and tents has grown with it. Last year these tickets sold out, and even with the space we had been allocated there were some challenges with the demand – so this year the council have kindly allowed us to expand the festival footprint once again, opening up new camp site areas and and providing more car park space for campervans.

More Live Music Than Ever Before!

Its been a lot of fun bringing more live music to the Armada each year. In 2013, the first event had just one small tent on site to register everyone and then 350 kitesurfers went kiting together, broke a world record, raised lots of money for charity and had fun in some pretty hairy conditions!  And then the kitesurfing community said it might also be fun to add in some music, some camping, some brands maybe – and the Armada as we know it today was born…
